Astros unveil 2010 promotions schedule03/15/2010 6:40 PM ET
HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros 2010 home schedule is filled with exciting promotions and events and attractive giveaway items for fans of all ages. Below is sampling of what fans can look forward to during the upcoming season.
Throughout the season, the ballclub will be celebrating the Astros 45th anniversary in a variety of ways. As part of that celebration, the Astros will give away an anniversary-themed schedule magnet (April 5, Opening Day), a commemorative cap (April 9), a 1965 throwback jersey (April 10), fleece blanket (April 23) and replicas of both the blue and orange caps the Astros wore from 1965-1993 (July 9 and July 28). Additionally, the April 10 game will feature both the Astros and visiting Phillies players wearing uniforms from their 1965 seasons as part of a special "Turn Back the Clock Night."
In addition to these items, the club has created a retrospective set of bobbleheads currently scheduled to honor Jose Cruz (April 24), Jimmy Wynn (June 5), Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan (June 19), and Mike Scott (July 10). These bobbleheads feature the player in an iconic moment from their Astros career.
Other bobbleheads scheduled for the 2010 season feature the Astros pair of talented, young outfielders with collectibles of Michael Bourn (May 22) celebrating his 2009 Rawlings Gold Glove Award and 2009 All-Star Hunter Pence (September 11). The players in both of these bobbleheads are dynamically-posed and are a unique addition to the traditional bobblehead lineup.
Astros Play Green®
The club will continue to focus efforts on its commitment to the environment through the Astros Play Green® program. Items currently scheduled as part of this initiative include an Astros Play Green® cap made of recycled plastic bottles (April 22, Earth Day), reusable grocery tote bag (April 29), reusable aluminum water bottle (June 4) and a natural fiber tote bag (September 12).
Pink in the Park
Continuing an effort started in 2009, the Pink in the Park initiative, dedicated to breast cancer awareness, will be complemented with several 'pink' items on Mother's Day weekend. Items include a pink cap (May 7), tote bag (May 8) and t-shirt (May 9, Mother's Day). The Astros will also be celebrating Father's Day (June 20) with the traditional Father's Day Tie that features a prostate cancer awareness theme.
It's a Family Thing
For several years, the Astros baseball experience has been ideal for families. In 2010, the family experience will be even better with the launch of Family Sundays presented by Minute Maid. Take in the sights and sounds of Astros baseball
along with our featured family-friendly activities at every Sunday home game in 2010. Family Sundays includes a Kid's Zone in Union Station that features inflatibles, face painters, balloon artists, arts and crafts and other fun activities. Paired with Price Matters Days presented by HEB, fans can get a game ticket, hot dog, chips and a soda for only $10 - an offer that is ideal for families and is available for every Sunday home game. Prior to the game, a group of young fans will take the field with the Astros starters as part of Kids Take the Field. And, following each Sunday game, all kids ages 4-14 are invited to run the bases (schedule subject to change).
Giveaway items geared towards kids include a Webkinz 'Lil Kinz doll (July 11) and a chest protector backpack (August 15). This innovative backpack is designed to look like a catcher's chest protector and is the perfect item for heading back to school.
The Astros also host annual on-field parades dedicated to youth baseball and softball players (April 25 and May 23) and for Boy and Girl Scouts (August 1 and September 12). These parades feature kids in uniform and their coaches (or scout leaders) marching around the Minute Maid Park warning track with their group prior to the game.
Other items scheduled throughout the year include a neoprene laptop sleeve (May 20) and the traditional gym bag (July 23). Also making a return in 2010 is the always popular Friday Night Fireworks presented by Marathon Oil Corporation. This fireworks spectacular follows every Friday night home game (weather permitting) and kicks off following the Astros vs. Blue Jays exhibition game (April 2).
Other fun events include the annual Dog Day presented by H-E-B (April 11) and two College Nights (April 23 and September 17).
