HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros announced today that the club has outrighted three players off their 40-man roster: left-handed pitcher Xavier Cedeno and right-handed pitchers Blake King and Lance Pendleton. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Ed Wade.

Pendleton can elect to become a free agent due to a prior outright, while Cedeno will automatically become a free agent following the World Series. King will be placed on Double A Corpus Christi's roster.

Cedeno, 25, who had his contract purchased from Triple A Oklahoma City on September 11, appeared in three games for Houston, posting no record and a 27.00 ERA (5ER/1.2IP) in what was his first Major League season. He split the majority of his season at the Double A (23g) and Triple A (12g) levels, combining to post a 7-9 record and a 4.38 ERA (67ER/137.2IP) in 35 games, including 22 starts. The 2011 Texas League All-Star finished tied for seventh in the TL in strikeouts (110). Cedeno was signed by Houston prior to the 2011 season as a minor league free agent.

King, 24, combined to post a 2-2 record and a 5.73 ERA (35ER/55IP) in 50 relief appearances with Corpus Christi (33g), Double A Springfield (2g) and Triple A Memphis (15g). He allowed only 41 hits, while striking out 69 in his 55.0 innings pitched this season. During his time with Corpus Christi, King was 0-2 with a 3.76 ERA (17ER/40.2IP) in 33 appearances. He was acquired by Houston midseason, on May 26, on a waiver claim from St. Louis.

Pendleton, 27, compiled a 6.75 ERA (14ER/18.2IP) and no record in 15 relief appearances for Houston (4g) and the New York Yankees (11g) this season. The native Houstonian began his season as a Rule 5 draft pick by the Astros before being returned to the Yankees during Spring Training. He spent most of his season with Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, going 3-4 with a 3.11 ERA (23ER/66.2IP) in 18 games, including 10 starts. The Astros claimed Pendleton off waivers from New York on September 9 and he finished his season with the Major League club. He was originally a fourth-round selection by New York in the 2005 Draft.

The Astros 40-man roster now stands at 37.
