Minute Maid Park will play host to some of the top teams in college baseball again this February with The 2004 Minute Maid College Classic. Held in conjunction with Astros FanFest, the six-team tournament will feature nine games at Minute Maid Park from February 13-15, 2004 and will include the NCAA National Champions from each of the last two seasons.
Hometown schools Houston and Rice, the latter of which won the 2003 national title, return for their fourth year in a field that also includes Texas, Texas Tech, Ohio State and Kansas State. The Longhorns won the 2002 national championship and returned to the College World Series won by Rice last season, while Houston and Ohio State both won regional tournaments and advanced to the Super Regionals in 2003. Rice opens the 2004 season as the number-one ranked team in Baseball America's Top 25, while Texas opens at No. 8. The battle of the last two national champions at Minute Maid Park will be Saturday night (Feb. 14) at 7 p.m.
Astros FanFest also returns with family activities surrounding the Classic. The winter baseball carnival offers fans the opportunity to meet Astros players, play interactive baseball games, participate in baseball clinics, and watch some of the nation's best college baseball teams. FanFest will run Saturday, Feb. 14 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 15 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and the purchase of a ticket for either day's baseball games will be good for admittance into FanFest. A complete lineup of Fanfest activities is available here.
