Getting to Minute Maid Park
Parking
Finding a parking space in Downtown Houston can be easy and inexpensive when you plan ahead. Use a map to find parking options located near your Downtown destination. Have a second location in mind in case your first choice is full.
Minute Maid Park is a short walk from most of Houston's downtown garages and surface parking lots. It is estimated that almost 25,000 parking spaces are available in a walkable distance for ballpark events.
The key to a successful parking experience for Astros games will be to park in the area in which you have entered Downtown and to exit in the same direction. By taking advantage of free public transportation or simply walking, you will be able to arrive at the ballpark in a matter of minutes.
Parking Tips to make your trip easier:
- Read all signs before you park. Look for signs and banners with the baseball "P" that designates public parking.
- Carry nickels, dimes and quarters for parking meters. Many surface lots are unattended and require payment in advance. Keep some one dollar bills handy.
- Some Downtown restaurants and hotels offer shuttle service. Ask about parking when calling for lunch or dinner reservations.
- The best way to explore Downtown is on foot. You might discover a great new shop or restaurant! Please be respectful of neighborhoods and residential areas.
Getting to Minute Maid Park:
Baseball fans arriving for Houston Astros games at Minute Maid Park enjoy more ease of movement around the stadium as the result of street projects completed since the end of the 2003 season.
South of Minute Maid Park, the project to extend Avenida de las Americas two blocks from the George R. Brown Convention Center to the stadium was finished. The boulevard is expected to ease traffic for both pedestrians and vehicles.
North of the ballpark, new lanes have been built on Franklin Street and adjacent sidewalks are complete. Jackson, Hamilton and Commerce streets are also being rebuilt. Access to all parking lots on these streets is unimpeded.
Parking availability around Minute Maid Park has grown since last season. The nine-story garage connected to both the George R. Brown and the Hilton Americas offers 1,600 spaces in a direct line to the stadium. A little farther away is the 2,400-car garage at Toyota Center. A new 1,000-car garage, part of the Harris County courthouse complex, is open at the corner of Austin and Congress. New on-street metered parking has been added along Lamar, Crawford and LaBranch streets.
Finally, fans can make the trip downtown aboard the new 7.5-mile light rail system that drops passengers off on Main Street, just six blocks from Minute Maid Park.
Construction in and around the Houston downtown area may altered your favorite routes to and from the ballpark. Fans are encouraged to review their route prior to attending their first game or log-on to www.downtownstreets.com for updated information on Houston street construction.
In addition, METRO will continue to offer fans a variety of transportation options to Minute Maid Park in Downtown, although METRO's Homerun Express and Shortstop Shuttle services is no longer available. Baseball fans still can use METRO's Local and Commuter bus routes from locations throughout the Houston region, as well as the free Downtown trolleys, to travel to the ballpark. The Homerun Express and Shortstop Shuttle services were offered previously through federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant funding, which has expired.
