Glen Barker
Director of Pacific Rim Scouting
Former Astros outfielder Glen Barker was named as the Astros Director of Pacific Rim Scouting on Nov. 6, 2007. In his current role, Barker will oversee all of the franchise's scouting efforts in the Pacific Rim region, including Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Australia. The 36-year-old Barker has served as a professional scout for the Astros during the last three years, including responsibility for the Eastern League and International League in 2005 and 2006. He also scouted the Pacific Coast League in 2007.

Barker played three seasons in the Major Leagues for the Astros from 1999-2001. In 235 career big league games, he hit .232 (38-for-164) with three home runs, 18 RBI, and 30 stolen bases. Barker was originally selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 11th round of the June 1993 draft.

His Pacific Rim playing experience includes two seasons in the Australian Winter League from 1997-98. As a minor league player in the Detroit Tigers system, he spent two months in the offseason following the 1998 campaign with the Hanshin Tigers of the Japanese League as part of a working agreement between the Detroit and Hanshin franchises.

Barker is a native of Albany, NY, and is a graduate of the College of St. Rose in New York with a degree in chemistry/mathematics. He and his wife, Fion, make their home in Houston with their son, Kai.
