Julio Linares
Special Assistant to the General Manager
A member of the Astros organization since 1973, Julio Linares begins his fourth season as special assistant for Dominican scouting and development. He previously spent six seasons as director of Dominican Republic Operations.

Julio served as manager of the Gulf Coast Astros in 1997-98. Overall, he has managed Houston's Rookie League club for 16 years (Sarasota 1977-80, 1984-87; Gulf Coast 1988-93, 97-98). He also spent three years at the Major League level as the Astros bench coach from 1994-96.

Julio played 15 seasons in the minor leagues as an infielder and outfielder and finished ninth in the Pacific Coast League with a .308 average in 1969. He retired after the 1972 season and began his coaching career with the Astros in 1973 at Covington in the Appalachian League.

Julio and his wife, Damaris, reside in San Pedro. He has five sons, Amaury, Rodney, Erick, Brian, and Michael. His son Rodney is the hitting coach for Houston's Class A team in Lexington and his son Amaury is a coach for the Dominican Summer League Astros.
