Director of Baseball Research and Analysis
Charlie Norton has been a member of the Astros organization since 2002, and was named director of baseball research/pro scouting coordinator on November 23, 2009. In his current role, Charlie continues to conduct player research, statistical analysis, waivers/transactions acquisitions, oversees the player evaluation system, including scouting reports/advance scouting, assists the Pro and Major League scouts and staff, and helps with contract negotiations, budgeting and salary arbitration preparation. He recently spent three seasons as the club's assistant director of baseball operations (2005-07).
Charlie is heavily involved with the club's operations in Greeneville, Tennessee, where he oversees the business operations. He previously spent three years as the general manager of the Martinsville Astros (2001-2003), the Astros Rookie League affiliate prior to Greeneville.
He came to the Houston organization after spending 1999-2001 working for the San Diego Padres Double A affiliate in Mobile, Alabama. While working in Mobile, he served as the director of season ticket sales. A native of Chicago, IL, Charlie received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Southern Illinois University, in Carbondale, Illinois. He also completed the Major League Baseball Scout Development Program in 2003. Charlie and his wife, Wendey, make their home in The Woodlands, TX, with their two daughters, Charlee and Kaylee.
