MASPP is sub-program of Marlins Ayudan. Its mission is to involve the Marlins front office in the community and collaborate with the Miami Dade public school system to cultivate positive relationships and improve academic performance. The program aims to accomplish this mission by:
• Working closely with MDCPS leadership in the selection of partner schools.
• Developing programming to meet the specific need of each individual partner school.
• Making the Marlins organization fully available as a resource to its partner schools.
For the 2012-13 and 2013-14 school years, the Miami Marlins have selected Ben Sheppard Elementary School, Bent Tree Elementary School, Bunche Park Elementary School, Citrus Grove Elementary School, Citrus Grove Middle School, Miami Edison Middle School, Miami Senior High School, and TERRA Environmental Research Institute as their partner schools.
The methodology of this program is to discover specific needs of each school and make our organization available as a resource to meet those needs. Examples of these efforts include, but are not limited to, mentoring and tutoring, school-beautification projects, and seminars to increase parental involvement.
Partner schools are also hosted at a Marlins game during our MASPP Nights. Schools are recognized on video boards, involved in pre-game ceremonies, interviews, and supported by the night's 50/50 Raffle Program.
CAREER WORKSHOP SERIES
The MASPP Career Workshop Series is a unique educational opportunity designed specifically for students of Miami Senior High School, TERRA Environmental Research Institute, and S.L.A.M. The goal of the program is to offer students a real-world glimpse at a variety of disciplines as they begin the path toward their future career.
Held select Thursdays at Marlins Park, the workshops are designed and hosted by the Marlins Ayudan. Each workshop may feature presentations, panel discussions, networking, a tour of Marlins Park, as well as small group breakout sessions.
