Loud crowd fuels Game 3 win

Left-handed reliever Mike Gallo, in his second big league season, is a member of a playoff team for the first time. Gallo is chronicling his journey through the posteason in a daily MLB.com online journal.

After Saturday's game, someone said to Brad Ausmus, "Hey, nice win." Brad said, "Is there ever a bad win in the playoffs?" For us to win here and have a chance tomorrow to wrap it up, it's the best feeling anybody could have.

Saturday's game was awesome. The roof was closed and the fans were loud. It was the loudest I've ever heard the crowd, and I'll bet it's going to be even louder Sunday. It seemed like, from our view down in the bullpen, we were just a half-inning away from a big offensive inning. And we did that, with Morgan Ensberg getting that big hit.

It's hard to believe we haven't lost at home since Aug. 22. It just doesn't seem possible. It seems like we're in a time machine. I know a lot of people are doing their part superstition-wise to keep this thing going. For one, the grounds crew is not changing the pattern on the grass. We asked them if they're putting any designs in the outfield for the playoffs. They said, "No, no, no, no. No way. We're not messing with the home streak."

Watching Brad Lidge get ready to come into a game is awesome. He loves the pressure, and the bullpen loves to watch him do his work. It's magical out there. Saturday, he threw the most fastballs I've ever seen him throw. Most of the time, it's slider, slider, slider, then a fastball. In Game 3, he brought the pain to these guys.

Hopefully, he'll have some left in the tank Sunday. You never know what's going to happen. Everyone in that bullpen is loving it and we're ready.

In Game 4, we have Roger Clemens going for us. He's been in this situation before. No matter if I get in the game or not, it's just so exciting to be a part of all of this. Having Clemens pitch that game to possibly wrap it up, it's great.

It's going to be hard to go to sleep tonight, knowing it could be another great day tomorrow. Hopefully there will be another big party.

Mike Gallo's diary appears as told to MLB.com reporter Alyson Footer. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
