Beltran pulls into tie with Bonds
Sluggers share single-season playoff homer mark
Carlos Beltran has not only made his first postseason appearance a memorable one, it's now historic.
With his tiebreaking solo shot in the seventh inning of Sunday's Game 4 of the National League Championship Series, the Houston center fielder has pulled into a first-place tie for most home runs in a single postseason, with eight. Barry Bonds clubbed eight long balls in the 2002 postseason, but in 19 games (five each in the NLDS and NLCS, seven in the World Series). Beltran's eight homers have come in just nine games (five in the NLDS, four in the NLCS).
Beltran has also homered in five consecutive postseason games, breaking a tie with Jeffery Leonard (1987) and Juan Gonzalez (1996) to take over sole possession of first place in that category.
Albert Pujols clubbed his sixth of the postseason in Game 6, tying the Cardinals' slugger for
fourth on the all-time list.
