Pettitte scratched due to sore ankle
Astros practice caution in holding off left-hander until Tuesday
ST. LOUIS -- Astros left-hander Andy Pettitte will not pitch on Monday in St. Louis, manager Phil Garner announced minutes before batting practice at Busch Stadium.
Right-hander Taylor Buchholz will start in place of Pettitte, who rolled his ankle while shagging fly balls over the weekend in Milwaukee. Pettitte was scratched for precautiounary reasons and is scheduled to pitch on Tuesday against the Cardinals.
Buchholz was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock prior to Monday's game. He was originally told that he was going to pitch on Tuesday, but he was informed around 5 p.m. CT that he was starting on Monday instead.
