Report: Berkman to take part in Derby
First baseman will take his hacks for first time since 2006
HOUSTON -- Astros first baseman Lance Berkman announced on Tuesday that he will participate in the State Farm Home Run Derby at the 2008 All-Star Game in New York City, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Berkman, who has a convincing lead in the National League All-Star race, has 22 home runs this season.
He previously participated in the Derby in 2004 in Houston, placing second behind teammate Miguel Tejada, then an American League All-Star shortstop for the Baltimore Orioles. He last participated in the Derby in 2006.
The Derby will be held July 14, the day before the All-Star Game, in Yankee Stadium.
