Berkman, Tejada make All-Star strides
First baseman moves up to fifth, shortstop to fourth
HOUSTON -- First baseman Lance Berkman and shortstop Miguel Tejada are on the move in the latest All-Star balloting results, released on Monday.
Berkman, who is slowly putting his poor start behind him, shot into the top five among first basemen for the first time this year. He is trailing Albert Pujols of St. Louis, Ryan Howard of Philadelphia, Prince Fielder of Milwaukee and Adrian Gonzalez of San Diego.
Berkman started at first base for the National League last year.
Tejada moved past New York's Jose Reyes and is now fourth among shortstops. The five-time All-Star trails Philadelphia's Jimmy Rollins, Florida's Hanley Ramirez and Milwaukee's J.J. Hardy for the right to start in the Midsummer Classic, being held at Busch Stadium on July 14 in St. Louis.
Teammate Ivan Rodriguez, who has caught more games than anyone in history, moved to third among catchers, behind Yadier Molina of St. Louis and Brian McCann of Atlanta.
Fans can cast their votes for starters up to 25 times with the 2009 All-Star Game Sprint Online Ballot at MLB.com and all 30 club sites until July 2 at 10:59 p.m. CT.
