Blum flies back to Houston for exam
Astros veteran infielder bothered by stiff neck
ST. LOUIS -- Astros third baseman Geoff Blum flew to Houston on Thursday to be examined by team medical director Dr. David Lintner. Blum was scratched from the starting lineup Wednesday with a sore neck and was unavailable to play.
Astros manager Cecil Cooper said he believes the problem is stemming from a nerve in Blum's neck.
"He's been battling that and a sore left knee and everything, and he's got to get it checked out," Cooper said.
Blum, hitting just .136 in his last six games, is batting .259 with nine homers and 45 RBIs this year.
