Moehler planning offseason knee surgery

CINCINNATI -- Astros starter Brian Moehler, who's scheduled to pitch Saturday in Milwaukee, said Tuesday he will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee at the end of the regular season. The surgery will be performed by team medical director Dr. David Lintner.

Moehler, who doesn't have a contract for next year, has been dealing with a sore knee for much of the season. The 37-year-old was on the disabled list in April with a sprained right knee.

"I'm just going to have it cleaned out," Moehler said. "It's been bothering me since the beginning of the year. It's there. It's nothing major, but I just need to clean it up.

"If I had just a normal daily life, I probably wouldn't have the surgery, but for what I do I need to have it done. I need to have it cleaned up."

Moehler is 8-10 with a 5.01 ERA this year.
