HOUSTON, TX — On Monday, the Houston Astros will return from their current road trip and will open up a nine-game homestand with a three-game set against the New York Mets (April 30-May 2). After an off day on Thursday, the Astros will play host to the St. Louis Cardinals (May 4-6) and the Miami Marlins (May 7-9).
Throughout the homestand, the Astros and Minute Maid Park will be hosting various special events, including alumni visits, the Pink in the Park Brunch & Bazaar, this installment of the Flashback Friday promotion and next Saturday’s Cinco de Mayo Celebration.
RICHARD HIDALGO FIRST PITCH (MONDAY)
On Monday, the Astros have invited former outfielder Richard Hidalgo to throw out a ceremonial first pitch. Hidalgo, who played for the Astros from 1997-2004, will be signing autographs from 6-6:30 p.m. on the main concourse behind home plate. In his eight-plus seasons with the club, Hidalgo became a fan favorite. He appeared in 813 games and hit 134 home runs with 465 RBI for the Astros.
The Astros will continue their season-long 50th anniversary celebration next Friday with the popular Flashback Fridays promotion. On the field, the club will wear the 1960s shooting star jersey, the first Astros jersey ever worn. As part of the festivities, the club has invited back former All-Star outfielder Rusty Staub to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Staub will also be signing autographs from 6-6:30 p.m. on the main concourse behind home plate. Fans may purchase tickets for the autograph signing for $25 by visiting www.astros.com/flashback, with all proceeds benefiting the Astros In Action Foundation. One autograph will be available per voucher and one voucher per person is allowed.
Staub, who played for the club from 1963-68, was a six-time All-Star in a career that spanned 23 seasons. He began his career with Houston in 1963 as a member of the Houston Colt .45s. When the franchise moved to the Astrodome in 1965, Staub was a member of that Opening Day roster, the first club to wear the shooting star jerseys.
PINK IN THE PARK BRUNCH & BAZAAR (FRIDAY)
Also on Friday, the Astros In Action Foundation’s Pink In The Park Brunch and Bazaar will be held in Union Station at Minute Maid Park. Funds will benefit The Methodist Cancer Center. All Astros players and their wives will attend the brunch (12:30-1:30p.m.). The bazaar, which opens at 11 a.m., will remain open until 2:30 p.m. A limited number of tickets for the brunch and bazaar are available at www.astros.com/pinkinthepark or by calling the Astros In Action Foundation at 713-259-8979.
CINCO DE MAYO CELEBRATION
On Saturday, May 5, the Astros will host a Cinco de Mayo celebration at Minute Maid Park prior to their 6:05 p.m. game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals. The party, which includes live entertainment, will be from 3-6 p.m. at KBR Plaza, adjacent to Union Station on Crawford Street. The festival is free and open to the public but admission to the Astros-Cardinals game requires a ticket.
On the field, the players will wear uniforms that feature the team name in Spanish, Los Astros, across the front of the jersey. Special Cinco de Mayo ticket packages are available in select seating areas and include a free value beer or soda. Tickets are available at www.astros.com/cinco or by calling the Astros ticket office at 1-800-ASTROS2.
