Rangers Press Release
Rangers acquire LHP Jeff Beliveau from Chicago Cubs on waiver claim
Lefty made major league debut in 2012
The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has acquired left-handed pitcher Jeff Beliveau (pronounced bell-eh-VOH) on a waiver claim.
Beliveau, 25, made his major league debut with the Cubs in 2012, going 1-0 with a 4.58 ERA (9 ER/17.2 IP) in 22 relief appearances. He spent the remainder of last season with Triple-A Iowa, going 4-5 with a 3.89 ERA (19 ER/44.0 IP) over 37 games. He had been designated for assignment on December 12 when the Cubs signed third baseman Ian Stewart.
Originally selected by Chicago-NL in the 18th round of the 2008 June draft, Beliveau was the 2011 Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Over his five-year minor league career, he has averaged 11.6 strikeouts-per-9-innings and just 0.6 home runs allowed-per-9-innings.
With today's transaction, the Rangers now have a full 40-man roster.
