Orioles and Oriole Advocates to hold Annual Cardboard to Leather Collection Sunday at Oriole Park
On Sunday, September 8, the Oriole Advocates will conduct their 2013 Cardboard to Leather™ collection at Oriole Park, presented by Legg Mason. The Oriole Advocates created the program in 1992 to provide new and used baseball and softball equipment to underprivileged youth in developing countries. Since the program started, the Oriole Advocates have distributed tons of equipment to little league ball players throughout the world in places such as Afghanistan, Aruba, Belgrade, Belize, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used baseball equipment to the Orioles game on Sunday to be used in this year's distribution. Financial donations will also be accepted to help with shipping costs.
The Oriole Advocates Charitable Foundation will also conduct a silent auction of sports memorabilia at the game on Sunday, on the lower concourse near Gate E. Fans will have the chance to bid on baseballs, photos, bats and jerseys autographed by current Orioles stars including CHRIS DAVIS, JJ HARDY, JIM JOHNSON, MANNY MACHADO, NATE McLOUTH and BRIAN ROBERTS. Funds raised from the auction will be used to support the Cardboard to Leather Program™, which this year will provide baseball equipment to players in the Dominican Republic and Mexico. Bids will be accepted from noon until 3:00 p.m.
In a special ceremony prior to the game, Alan Magleby, Managing Director of Investor Relations and Communications at Legg Mason, will be joined by Orioles pitcher MIGUEL GONZALEZ to present the Oriole Advocates Charitable Foundation with a $15,000 contribution for the Cardboard to Leather Equipment Collection. In addition, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund will award a grant of $5,000 to the Foundation for the purchase of new equipment.
Proceeds from the collection, silent auction, and check presentations will benefit youth baseball leagues in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic and Nuevo Leon and Puebla, Mexico.
MOMENT OF SILENCE, FIRST PITCH IN HONOR OF FALLEN BALTIMORE COUNTY POLICE OFFICER
Prior to tonight's game, the Orioles will hold a moment of silence in honor of fallen Baltimore County Police Officer Jason Schneider. Schneider was killed in the line of duty on August 28. Schneider's son Brandon will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and over 100 members of the Baltimore City and Baltimore County tactical units will be in attendance.
ORIOLES AND AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION PARTNERSHIP KICK-OFF EVENT
On Monday, September 9, the Orioles will host the American Heart Association and top donors for the 2014 Baltimore Heart Ball on the Centerfield Roof Deck for a special partnership kick-off event. The pre-game activities will be highlighted by an on-field check presentation to the American Heart Association from the Orioles in the amount of $75,000 to signify the official beginning of fundraising for the Heart Ball.
The Orioles and the American Heart Association partnership features the club serving as event chair for the 30th Annual Baltimore Heart Ball, scheduled for February 1, 2014. The Orioles are the first professional sports team to lead such an effort since the AHA's founding in 1924.
The Orioles and the AHA have set what would be a record-setting $810,000 fundraising goal for the Baltimore Heart Ball. Proceeds from the event benefit breakthroughs in cardiovascular disease research, education programs and advocacy efforts. A considerable portion of the funds are also directed to local institutions such as Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland.

MINOR LEAGUE APPRECIATION NIGHT
On Sunday, September 8, the Orioles will host Minor League Affiliate Appreciation Day at Oriole Park for their 1:35 p.m. game against the Chicago White Sox. The day will honor the Orioles affiliates and will include a pre-game ceremony revealing the 2013 award winners for Player Development and Scouting, including the Brooks Robinson Minor League Player of the Year and the Jim Palmer Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
The Orioles have extended a special discount ticket offer to fans of each of the Orioles' affiliate teams for select lower level seats. Fans who still need to purchase their tickets should contact their local affiliate for details on the discount offer.
Five affiliates will be represented and honored at the game: the Norfolk Tides, Bowie Baysox, Frederick Keys, Delmarva Shorebirds, and Aberdeen IronBirds. Mascots RipTide, Louie, Keyote, Sherman and Ferrous will join the Oriole Bird in various pre-game activities.
"CONDITION U" CEREMONY
The Orioles and Living Classrooms partnered this year to run "Condition U," a healthy lifestyles program in which 25 Baltimore City middle school students worked with JOE HOGARTY and RYAN CROTIN from the Baltimore Orioles strength and conditioning staff and the health and wellness staff at the Patterson Park Youth Sports and Education Center.
"Condition U" was held on Tuesdays and Thursdays and concluded on August 29. Through this program, the Orioles promoted healthy living and encouraged youth to take part in athletics while educating them on the tools needed to maintain long-term physical fitness. Participants included boys and girls ages 12-14 from East Baltimore who have shown interest across a variety of sports.
In a pre-game, on-field ceremony on Tuesday, September 10, the Orioles will recognize Christian Moya and Sydney Pinkett with a medal for Outstanding Male and Female Performer and Ian Furst with the Coach's Strength and Determination Award. All participants in the program were provided tickets for the game.
FORT MEADE CHECK PRESENTATION
During a pre-game ceremony on Tuesday, September 10, the Orioles and OriolesREACH will present a check for $24,615 to the Fort Meade Alliance from proceeds raised from an auction featuring game-worn jerseys and caps. On Friday, June 14, the Orioles celebrated Flag Day and the Army's Birthday as part of Military Appreciation Day. Orioles uniformed personnel wore a special home cap and jersey that featured a digicamo pattern designed into the twill (Orioles script, name and number). These jerseys and caps were autographed and authenticated and auctioned online as a pair at www.orioles.com/auction.

This donation to the Fort Meade Alliance Foundation will be used for the anticipated $2 million in renovations of Kuhn Hall on Fort Meade to establish a Resiliency Center for the entire military community, including Department of Defense employees and contractors.
USO CHECK PRESENTATION WITH DARREN O'DAY
OriolesREACH, along with Orioles pitcher DARREN O'DAY and his wife Elizabeth, will present a check for $23,463 to the United Service Organization (USO) during a pre-game ceremony on Thursday, September 12. On August 4, Darren and Elizabeth helped the United Service Organization support our nation's troops and their families through a new USO campaign called "Barbecue for the Troops." The O'Days hosted a bullpen picnic barbeque that included a silent auction featuring many one-of-a-kind items provided by and autographed by Orioles players. The Orioles also auctioned off the special "Stars and Stripes" hats the players wore during the July 4 game vs. the Texas Rangers.

COVERING THE BASES WITH BRIAN ROBERTS
On Friday, September 6 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Dempsey's Brew Pub & Restaurant will host "Covering the Bases with Brian Roberts," presented by the Kamryn Lambert Foundation. The event is meant to give fans an inside perspective on life in the Major Leagues. Fans will enjoy a buffet lunch, along with a program and Q&A session with BRIAN ROBERTS as he discusses his 13-year MLB career, the current season and more. Tickets are $75, with all proceeds benefitting the Kamryn Lambert Foundation's annual holiday toy drive for the University of Maryland Hospital for Children. "PAWZ AT PAZO" FUNDRAISER
On Sunday, September 8, Orioles players including CHRIS DAVIS, TOMMY HUNTER, NATE McLOUTH, DARREN O'DAY and MATT WIETERS will appear at "Pawz at Pazo," an exclusive event at PAZO Restaurant in Harbor East to benefit the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS). Tickets to the event are sold out but calendars featuring the Orioles players and their pets are still available online at www.orioles.com/petcalendar, with all proceeds to benefit BARCS.
ORIOLES AND RAVENS WIVES AT MARYLAND FOOD BANK
On Monday, September 9, the Oriole Wives will join forces with the Baltimore Ravens wives and volunteer at the Maryland Food Bank to sort and package food for distribution to hungry families.
The 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. volunteer session comes just one week into Hunger Action Month, in which food banks across the country strive to raise awareness and inspire action against hunger. At the heart of the Maryland Food Bank's Hunger Action Month promotion is the Be A Voice Campaign, which asks Marylanders to speak out against hunger by donating food, funds or time; and by using their social media feeds to spread the word. Profile pictures, avatars, badges and sample posts for Facebook and Twitter are included in a Hunger Action Toolkit, available for download at www.mdfoodbank.org/hunger-action-month.
According to the Maryland Food Bank, the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens families are prime examples of what it means to "be a voice," hosting annual food and funds drives, offering volunteer support and engaging other organizations in the work of the food bank. The teams' most recent collections provided $54,000 and more than 18,000 pounds of food for families in need.

ORIOLES MILITARY APPRECIATION PROGRAM
As part of the Orioles' Military Appreciation Program, sponsored by GEICO, the Orioles and OriolesREACH donate a catered private suite at each Sunday home game at Oriole Park to servicemen and women. On Sunday, September 8, military members from Walter Reed will enjoy the game vs. the Chicago White Sox from a catered suite, have an opportunity for a meet and greet with TOMMY HUNTER and BRIAN MATUSZ and receive an Under Armour player t-shirt.
STEAL SECOND BASE PRESENTED BY ESSKAY
The Orioles will again feature the Steal Second Base contest for every Sunday home game this season. Presented by ESSKAY, the Steal Second Base contest allows a young fan to participate in a timed race from the grounds crew area in center field to retrieve second base. Fans can sign up for the opportunity at the ballpark at any Fan Assistance Center. The lucky winner will receive four tickets to that day's game, gift certificates to use inside the park, an Orioles jersey and an Orioles prize pack. This year, the contestants will also get to keep the authentic base that they steal. The winner for Sunday, September 8 is Brandon Pabon, an 11-year-old from Reading, PA.
