Astros add five to 40-man roster
Griffiths outrighted to Triple A Round Rock
tickets for any Major League Baseball game
HOUSTON - The Houston Astros announced today that they have added five players to their 40-man roster: right-handed pitchers Jared Gothreaux and Juan Gutierrez; left-handed pitchers Mark McLemore and Wandy Rodriguez; and outfielder Luke Scott.

The Astros have also outrighted right-handed pitcher Jeremy Griffiths to Triple A Round Rock. Previously in the off-season, the club outrighted infielder Jason Alfaro and catcher Chris Tremie. Alfaro has since signed with Toronto as a minor league free agent, while Tremie has re-signed with the Astros with an invitation to Major League Spring Training.

Gothreaux, a 13th-round pick of the Astros in 2002, finished 9-7 with a 3.96 ERA (69ER/157IP) for Round Rock in 2004. The right-hander walked 35 and struck out 110 in 157 innings pitched last season.

Gutierrez, 21, is a product of the Astros Venezuelan Academy. In 13 starts for Rookie League Greeneville, the right-hander was 8-2 with a 3.70 ERA (27ER/65.2IP). He originally signed with the Astros as a non-drafted free agent on Dec. 14, 2000.

The left-handed McLemore was a fourth-round selection of the Astros in the 2002 draft. In 37 appearances for Class A Salem in 2004, including 13 starts, he was 7-7 with a 3.66 ERA (38ER/93.1IP) and six saves.

Rodriguez, a 25-year-old right-hander, is a product of the Astros Dominican Republic Academy. He went 11-6 with a 4.48 ERA (71ER/142.2IP) in 26 games (25 starts) for Double A Round Rock. He struck out 115 and walked 57 in 142.2 innings pitched.

Scott was acquired by Houston along with outfielder Willy Taveras in March from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for left-handed pitcher Jeriome Robertson. He split the 2004 season between Class A Salem and Round Rock, and he appeared in 63 games for the Express, batting .298 (62x208) with a team-leading 19 home runs and 62 RBI.

Griffiths made one start for the Astros this season after being acquired from the New York Mets on June 17 along with right-hander David Weathers in exchange for outfielder Richard Hidalgo. At Triple A New Orleans in 2004, he went 3-6 with a 5.85 ERA over 15 games (14 starts).
