Astros Recall Albers, Gimenez; Purchase Contract of Munson

HOUSTON - The Houston Astros announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Matt Albers and catcher Hector Gimenez from Triple A Round Rock. The club has also purchased the contract of catcher Eric Munson from Round Rock. The announcements were made by General Manager Tim Purpura.

Albers, 23, returns to Houston after being optioned to Round Rock on Sept. 7. He made two starts in the Pacific Coast League playoffs for the Express, going 0-1 with a 2.76 ERA (4ER/13IP). He is 0-1 with a 4.35 ERA (5ER/10.1IP) in three appearances (one start) for the Astros. He tossed 5.0 scoreless innings of relief with two hits on July 27 vs. Cincinnati. In his lone start on August 3 at San Diego, he surrendered five runs over 5.0 frames. Overall in the regular season at Triple A, Albers posted a 2-1 mark with a 3.96 ERA (11ER/25IP), 10 walks and 26 strikeouts in four starts for the Express. He started the season at Double A Corpus Christi and was 10-2 with a 2.17 ERA (28ER/116IP) in 19 starts before making the jump to the Majors. Albers was recently named the Texas League's Pitcher of the Year.

Gimenez, 23, makes his first appearance in the Majors. He hit .273 (75x275) with eight home runs and 37 RBI at Round Rock this year in his first season at the Triple A level. In 2005, he led Corpus Christi with 58 RBI and earned Texas League All-Star honors.

Munson, 28, returns to Houston where he batted .204 (28x137) with five home runs and 19 RBI in 49 games this season. He started 30 games behind the plate for the Astros before he was designated for assignment on Aug. 20. He was assigned to Round Rock on Aug. 24 and batted .250 (8x32) with two home runs and nine RBI in eight regular season games. He hit .300 (6x20) with three RBI in seven PCL playoff games. Munson is hitting .212 (195x919) with 45 home runs and 132 RBI over parts of seven Major League seasons.

The Houston Major League roster now stands at 32 players.
