HOUSTON -- The Astros will host the Houston Texans in a Home Run Derby contest Wednesday, June 11 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Minute Maid Park. Houston Texans players will attempt to hit home runs as part of the Reliant Energy Home Run Derby, benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston.

This year's contest is the sixth annual Home Run Derby at Minute Maid Park and the third year the Astros and Texans have used the event to raise funds for Reliant Energy's Power Blast Program. For every home run hit, Reliant Energy will donate $500 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston to fund after school and summer programs for kids. Reliant will also donate $250 for a ball that hits the wall, $100 for a hit in the outfield and $50 for an infield ball. During the Astros and Brewers game Wednesday night, Reliant will award $500 for each home run hit by an Astros player and $100 for each strikeout by an Astros pitcher.

The Texans participants include Kris Brown, Owen Daniels, Bryan Pittman, Chester Pitts, Sage Rosenfels, DeMeco Ryans, Ephraim Salaam, Matt Schaub, Mario Williams, and Eric Winston.

"With Reliant's expanded program this year that includes money donated for hits in addition to home runs during the Derby and potential donations resulting from the Astros game Wednesday night we anticipate making a significant donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston," said Marian Harper, Vice President of Foundation Development for the Houston Astros Baseball Club. "Working with Reliant and the Texans on this event is a fun and unique way for all of us to help young people throughout Houston."

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston has 12 clubs in the Greater Houston and Galveston County area, which serve approximately 13,000 youth per year. Known as "The Positive Place for Kids," the clubs provide guidance-oriented programs on a daily basis for children 7-17 years old, conducted by full-time professional staff. Key programs emphasize character and leadership development, educational enhancement, career preparation, health and life skills, the arts, sports, fitness and recreation.
