Astros tab Clemens' oldest son
Signed to play at Texas, Koby drafted as infielder
By Alyson Footer / MLB.com
Koby Clemens, a senior at Memorial High School, signed a letter of intent to play baseball for the University of Texas, his dad's alma mater, in November of last year. Roger Clemens was an All-American pitcher during both of his years at Texas, 1982 and 1983, and was the winning pitcher in the final game of the 1983 College World Series as Texas beat Alabama, 4-3, for the NCAA title.
Although Koby Clemens was drafted as an infielder, he also seemingly has some of his dad's pitching prowess. Earlier this season, the eldest Clemens kid threw consecutive no-hitters for Memorial High.
Koby Clemens was the fourth high school player the Astros selected. In the first eight rounds, Houston picked six college players and six high school players. Their first round selection (24th overall) was left-handed pitcher Brian Bogusevic from Tulane University.
