Astros top Dodgers with nine-run eighth
Lefty Pettitte tosses six innings in final spring start

Thursday, March 30 Dodgers at the plate: Nick Alvarez was 2-for-2 with a leadoff double in the fifth. Pat Borders knocked a solo homer off Andy Pettitte in the fourth frame. Astros at the plate: Willy Taveras and Morgan Ensberg were both 2-for-2 with a walk. Lance Berkman was 1-for-3 with a double in the third inning that scored Taveras from first. Brian Gordon's two-run homer -- his first long ball of the spring -- highlighted Houston's nine-run eighth frame. Dodgers on the mound: Right-hander Eric Hill allowed one run on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts over three innings. He threw 56 pitches, 31 for strikes. Left-hander Tim Hamulack pitched a scoreless frame, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one. Astros on the mound: Left-hander Pettitte allowed three runs (one earned) on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts over six innings. He threw 79 pitches, 60 for strikes. Records: Astros 10-18; Dodgers 14-11-1.
