Koby Clemens, teammates arraigned

Catcher charged with disorderly conduct; court date Dec. 2

CHICAGO -- Three Astros Minor Leaguers, including Salem catcher Koby Clemens, were arraigned Tuesday, and another court date was set for Dec. 2, according to assistant general manager Ricky Bennett.

Clemens, Salem first baseman Mark Ori and catcher Jimmy Goethals were arrested Sunday morning. Clemens and Ori were charged with disorderly conduct, and Goethals with assault and battery. The three, according to a release from the Salem (Va.) police, were taken to the Roanoke County-Salem Jail before being released on bond.

Bennett declined to speculate on the futures of the three players until the Astros are able to gather all of the information regarding the events that led to the players' arrests. Ori is scheduled to play in the Arizona Fall League this offseason, while Clemens was likely headed to Instructional League.

"I'm not going to prejudge until we go through the process," Bennett said. "We don't know all the facts. We'll try to get as much information as we can. We're not going to make any decisions along those lines until we go through the process. We'll see what happens."

According to the news release from the Salem police, the officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the parking lot of Mac and Bob's Restaurant at 2 a.m. on Sunday and found approximately 50 people in the lot.

The release did not give details about the events that led to the arrests. It stated that Clemens and Ori were arrested on the scene, and Goethals was charged "after an employee of the restaurant obtained a warrant for his arrest" from the Roanoke County/Salem magistrate's office.
