Urologist Dr. Richard Goldfarb performed the surgery at The Methodist Hospital in Houston. Berry's cancerous right kidney was removed via laproscope, leaving a two-inch abdominal incision. Doctors indicated that there will not be a need for follow-up cancer treatments.
The 43-year-old Berry will remain hospitalized for three to four days and could return to his full coaching duties in approximately two weeks.
Tests conducted by Dr. Goldfarb on Berry on Wednesday discovered the cancerous kidney. Berry first began experiencing discomfort in his kidney area last Saturday, while the Astros were in Atlanta, which prompted the scheduling of Wednesday's tests.
