Paulino lands on DL with strained groin

Astros call up reliever Wright from Triple-A Round Rock

HOUSTON -- The Astros placed starting pitcher Felipe Paulino on the 15-day disabled list after Thursday's 2-1 win over the Cubs.

Paulino was forced to leave his last start on Sunday against the Pirates in the middle of the second inning with a strained right groin. He had thrown just 34 pitches, allowing three hits and one run in 1 2/3 innings while striking out four of the eight batters he faced.

"I am better but I don't want to pitch badly and risk hurting my groin again," Paulino said. "They want me to be 100 percent."

The Astros recalled left-hander Wesley Wright from Triple-A Round Rock to take Paulino's spot on the roster. He had appeared in 19 games this season with the Astros going 1-1 with a 7.24 ERA over 13 2/3 innings before being optioned down to Round Rock in order to make room for right-hander Brandon Backe on May 27.

Wright is 1-1 with a 2.89 ERA over 9 1/3 innings with Round Rock this season.
