Altuve holds firm to third place in All-Star voting

Altuve, who ranks second in the National League with 30 multihit games, remained in third place among second basemen. Altuve will need a dramatic late push in the voting totals to nab the NL's starting spot.
Altuve has 1,479,652 votes, trailing the Reds' Brandon Phillips (1,870,966) and Atlanta's Dan Uggla, who leads second basemen with 2,641,361 votes.
Entering Tuesday, Altuve was 12th in the NL with a .309 batting average, and tied for fifth in the league with 88 hits.
No other Astros players were among the leaders at their positions, including shortstop Jed Lowrie, who is among the NL leaders in several offensive categories at his position.
Fans can cast their votes for starters up to 25 times at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- online or via your mobile device -- using the 2012 All-Star Game MLB.com Ballot until Thursday at 10:59 p.m. CT.Fans can also once again participate in the State Farm Home Run Derby Fan Poll. The final phase of All-Star Game voting will again have fans participating in the official voting for the Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet. During the Midsummer Classic, fans will vote exclusively online at MLB.com via the 2012 All-Star Game MLB.com MVP Vote, and their voice will represent 20 percent of the official vote determining the recipient of the Arch Ward Trophy. Altuve, 21, began last season with Class A Lancaster, and wound up in Houston by the end of July. He batted .276 with two homers and 12 RBIs in 57 games for the Astros in 2011.
