Gonzalez exits early due to strained right hamstring

HOUSTON -- Astros starter Edgar Gonzalez left Friday's game against the Pirates in the second inning with a strained right hamstring. Interim manager Tony DeFrancesco said Gonzalez tweaked the hamstring fielding a ground ball to the right side of the infield.

"All of a sudden, it didn't look like it was right, so we went out and he did tweak it," DeFrancesco said. "Right now, I haven't had any reports on it, but hopefully it wasn't too bad."

Gonzalez wasn't available for comment after the game. Reliever Fernando Rodriguez came on and delivered 3 1/3 scoreless innings in the Astros' 7-1 victory.

Gonzalez, 29, signed as a free agent with the Astros on Aug. 23. He was 2-1 in his first three starts with a 4.40 ERA.
