A's win replay challenge in 10th inning against Astros

OAKLAND -- A's manager Bob Melvin won a replay challenge in the top of the 10th inning on Tuesday to help keep the score tied at 2 before the Astros won it, 3-2, in the 12th inning.

Jose Altuve broke early from first base with one out in the 10th, and he was called safe on Dan Otero's throw. But the evidence suggested otherwise -- Nick Punto had tagged Altuve in time -- and the call was overturned.

Melvin improved to 9-for-16 on challenge attempts, but the Astros went ahead on L.J. Hoes' solo homer off Fernando Abad in the 12th.

"They were aggressive on the bases," Melvin said. "We did all right in that fashion, we just came up one run short and a couple big hits short."
