7/29/2013 | Club continues to weigh four-man rotation option
The Rays are still weighing the possibility of going to a four-man rotation for the month of August, but haven't made any decisions. With five off-days in the month, the Rays could conceivably go with their top-four pitchers -- David Price, Chris Archer, Matt Moore and Jeremy Hellickson -- who have been spectacular during July.
7/29/2013 | Rays escape, back in first as Price again bests Red Sox
For the second time in five days, David Price dominated the Red Sox, allowing one run over 7 1/3 innings, but it was Sam Fuld who preserved the win for Price, throwing out the tying run at the plate in the eighth in the Rays' 2-1 victory Monday at Fenway Park. The win vaulted Tampa Bay into first place, a half-game ahead of Boston.
7/29/2013 | Red Sox lose their cool, fall to Rays on close call
Sure, the Red Sox were frustrated at being thoroughly handcuffed by David Price for the second time in six days. But that isn't what made them reach their boiling point en route to a gut-wrenching 2-1 loss to the Rays on Monday night at Fenway Park.
7/29/2013 | Lewis makes solid rehab start at Double-A

7/29/2013 | Angels 'committed to winning,' not giving up on season
The outside perception is that Mike Scioscia and the Angels -- fresh off trading veteran reliever Scott Downs for a Minor League pitcher and perhaps looking to strike other similar deals -- are waving the proverbial white flag on their 2013 season. Really, though, they're just embracing reality.

7/29/2013 | Giants' 2012 title honored at White House

7/29/2013 | Bogaerts' arrival unknown, but highly anticipated
One intriguing thing to follow down the stretch for the Red Sox is the timetable for the arrival of Xander Bogaerts. Will the man most regard as the top position prospect in the organization be called up when rosters expand in September, or even sooner?
7/29/2013 | After 34 straight starts, Iglesias gets breather
For the first time since June 18, the Red Sox had a starting lineup that did not include Jose Iglesias. The infielder had started 34 straight games. However, Iglesias has been slumping of late. He has just five hits in his last 44 at-bats. Brandon Snyder got the start at third base Monday against Rays lefty David Price, while Stephen Drew started at short.
7/29/2013 | Seemingly minor deals can have postseason impact
They weren't major trades, but the Braves' acquisition of Scott Downs and the Tigers' deal for Jose Veras could have a major impact in the fall.
7/29/2013 | Rays acquire injured White Sox reliever Crain
The Rays aren't sure when Jesse Crain will be healthy enough to join their bullpen this season, but were still happy to acquire the White Sox's All-Star reliever on Monday afternoon in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations.

It's difficult for Jason Grilli to be a spectator, but the way he sees it, things could be much worse. Grilli is just happy to be back with his teammates on Monday -- dressed in full gear, even if he won't take the field -- and not under a doctor's knife.

After learning of the Pirates' decision to pitch veteran A.J. Burnett in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader, the Cardinals opted to flip-flop their own starting pitching plans. Wanting his "experienced pitcher lining up with theirs," manager Mike Matheny announced that Lance Lynn will oppose Burnett in Game 1, leaving the Game 2 assignment to rookie left-hander Tyler Lyons.

On a day the Cardinals opened a five-game series against their closest division competitor, manager Mike Matheny remained firm in his insistence that the team views this stop in Pittsburgh in pieces, not as a whole.
