Utley headed to 15-day DL with strained oblique
The Phillies announced that Chase Utley, who felt a burning sensation on his right side when taking swings during batting practice Monday in Miami, will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with what they have called a "very mild" Grade 1 strained oblique. He is eligible to be activated June 5.

Phanatic joins phun as teacher, student honored
The Phillie Phanatic was greeted with cheers and danced with students as part of a Phillies pep rally at Seaview Elementary School. The celebration was to honor third-grader Ethan Levine, who won the New Jersey Education Association's "Educators who inspire me" essay contest with a submission about his language arts teacher, Tracey Meister.

The only offseason question between the Phillies and Nationals seemed to be how far behind the Phils would be in the National League East standings when they played the Nats for the first time in May. It turns out that just one game separates them in the standings 47 games in.

Vintage Lee three-hits Marlins in 12th career shutout
Crafting his 12th career shutout, Cliff Lee allowed three hits, two walks and struck out five in the Phillies' 3-0 series-clinching victory over the Marlins on Wednesday night at Marlins Park. Delmon Young hit his second solo homer in as many nights to provide Lee with all the run support he would need.

Utley to get MRI on rib cage Thursday
Chase Utley felt a burning sensation in his right rib cage taking swings in the batting cage before Tuesday's game at Marlins Park. He got scratched from the lineup a short time later, did not play in Wednesday's series finale against the Marlins and will have an MRI exam Thursday in Philadelphia.

Day after frustrating loss, Hamels remains quiet
It will take much more than a penny for Cole Hamels' thoughts. Hamels signed a six-year, $144 million contract extension last summer, so he certainly doesn't need the money. He declined for a second day to discuss his frustrations following Monday's 5-1 loss to the Marlins at Marlins Park.

Left knee feeling better, Howard rejoins lineup
Ryan Howard has thought about the long-term prognosis for his balky left knee. He tried his hand at gallows humor to discuss those concerns Tuesday at Marlins Park. "I guess if I blow up, then I'd be worried about that then," he said. But Howard was back in Tuesday's lineup, which is a positive short-term development.

Utley scratched with discomfort in right side
Phillies second baseman Chase Utley had to be scratched from Tuesday's lineup because he felt discomfort on his right side during batting practice. A team official indicated it is in the ribcage area. The club said Utley is receiving treatment and will be reevaluated Wednesday.

Phillies' bats awaken, back Cloyd's strong start
Supporting Tyler Cloyd's strong seven-inning performance, the Phillies tied a season high with 15 hits in a 7-3 victory over the Marlins on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. Howard sits out with left knee inflammation
Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard missed much of last season following surgery to repair a ruptured left Achilles. He then had a cortisone injection in his left knee Sunday in Philadelphia because of inflammation and changes in his meniscus.
