Tough luck stings Cardinals

The loss of David Eckstein to a left hamstring strain was only the first in a string of damaging events that led to the Cardinals' fifth straight loss and cut their division lead to 3 1/2 games over the second-place Astros. A pair of disputed calls that favored Houston in the bottom of the seventh contributed to a costly four-run inning.

Astros make race tighter

Roger Clemens went five innings in what may have been his final start at Houston, but more important to the Astros is their sudden involvement in the NL Central race after completing a four-game sweep of the Cardinals in their final regular-season game at Minute Maid Park. Aubrey Huff broke the game open with a three-run homer.
