GREEN UP DAY 2013
The Washington Nationals Dream Foundation will partner with Anacostia Riverkeeper for the fifth annual Green Up Day on Friday, August 9. Volunteers from local businesses as well as community groups, government and military groups will spend the morning working on the fragile wetland areas in Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, part of the sole tidal marsh in Washington, D.C. This is the second year that Green Up Day has focused on the Gardens, which serve as a flood plain for the surrounding neighborhood. The work will involve shoring up natural barriers around the ponds, eliminating invasive plant species and removing trash. Presenting sponsor Waste Management will provide Green Up Day t-shirts for all volunteers and handle the pick-up and disposal of all debris using their Bagster® collection bags. Hard Times Cafe will donate lunch at Nationals Park to those who volunteer their time to the effort.
Each volunteer will receive a ticket to the Sunday, August 11, Nationals-Phillies game in appreciation for their service.

"The Green Up Day work performed by the volunteers from the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation made a significant impact on the health of the estuary. The impact of so many volunteers working together moves us closer to the goal of a restored Anacostia River."
- Mike Bolinder, Anacostia Riverkeeper
